Ye people, rend your hearts; If with all your heart (Joel 2:12-13; Deuteronomy 4:29, Jeremiah 29:13, Job 23:3) – Felix Mendelssohn

Elijah reviving the Son of the Widow of Zarephath by Louis Hersent

Joel 2:12-13; Deuteronomy 4:29, Jeremiah 29:13, Job 23:3

12 Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:

13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!

Ye people, rend your hearts; If with all your heart – recitative and air from Elijah, Op. 70, composed by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847) and English version first performed in April 1847
