Alleluia, tulerunt Dominum [They took away my Lord] (John 20:13-15) – G. P. da Palestrina

Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina

John 20:13-15 [Latin]

13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

Alleluia, tulerunt Dominum (published 1569, Liber primus motettorum, 5–7vv, Rome), composed by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594)

Acts 1:11; Psalm 47:5; Psalm 103:19 [Latin]

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

God is gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.

19 The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.
